Should you choose a REAL Christmas Tree?

    by Bronni Page

Local Should you choose a REAL Christmas Tree?

When it comes to Christmas trees (and most things, tbh..) we are all for keeping it real. Here’s why:

    THAT smell
Seriously, is there anything quite like that fresh, zingy, piney smell of arealtree? It’s that aroma that truly brings Christmas alive for many of us. And NO, you can’t get that in a can...

    Green=calm
Connecting to nature is an innate human instinct that helps us feel relaxed and calm - ahhhh… Hey, Christmascanbe stressful - if having some beautiful greenery around helps to calm the farm - we’re IN!

    Supporting Small
Real trees are grown on small regional farms. Their plasticy cousins are usually imported from huge global manufacturers. It’s Christmas - wouldn’t you rather support the local guys?

Our Christmas-loving producers, Kristy and Tony grow their gorgeous Radiata Pines in the crisp air of the NSW Southern Highlands. They love contributing to 1000’s of family Christmases in such a special way.

    Carbon Neutral
After running the numbers, environmental organisation Planet Ark reckons if a natural tree is grown locally and mulched or composted after use, it's carbon neutral. Boom!

    No plastics and nasties
Artificial trees are usually made of plastic and perhaps even (eek!) steel and lead. They consume energy and resources in production and shipping and end up in landfill. In fact, studies state you would need to reuse an artificial tree for 20 years before it would be as sustainable as a natural tree….

    Space Saving
Artificial trees need packing away and storing for the remainder of the year, taking up valuable real-estate in your garage or that cupboard where all the stuff you’re not sure what to do with goes… A real tree, on the other hand, arrives, does it’s thing and is happy to leave without a fuss.

    Easy, ethical disposal
There are two easy options to bid your tree goodbye after the big day, and both involve your local council. Most local councils will collect Christmas trees for free and either mulch or compost them. Sometimes it's a special Christmas tree collection, or else you can book it as an extra green waste collection. Otherwise - and a bit more labour intensive - is to chop your tree up and pop in your green bin, ready for the next regular collection.

    Tree Care 101
A beautiful pine does need a little TLC to keep it feelin’ fresh and looking festive. Treat your cut tree like you would a cut flower in a vase; the base should remain submerged in water and continually topped up throughout the month.
