Local 'Going Bananas' Creamy Porridge with Macadamias and Apple

Going bananas thinking of quick, easy and nutritious ways to fill big and little bellies in the morning?

How about porridge?

Wait, where are you going? We're not talking about that stodgy-cardboardy-gluggy-mess that has scarred your childhood breakfast memories.. No way! We're talking a moreish, creamy porridge made with fresh oats and sweet banana, topped with crunchy macadamias and tangy apple that the whole family will down their devices for..

Fresh oats? Yes, it's a thing, and they are quite different and much better for you than the big supermarket variety you may be used to.

Oats 101
Most oats are dried as part of rolling process which takes out oil and precious nutrients. These oats from the folk at Brushwoods, near Wagga Wagga, are harvested, husked and rolled first to retain more of the nutrients and oils. What you get is oats that taste the way they are supposed to taste - creamy, luxurious and ummm oaty.

We reckon once you try this recipe with these oats, you’ll never pick up a supermarket packet again. Yep, it's a big call, but we're backing it! 

Are you ready to go bananas for porridge?

'Going Bananas' Creamy Porridge with Macadamias and Apple

For 6 serves, you need:

2 cups Fresh Rolled Oats
4 cups water
Pinch salt
4-6 overripe bananas, mashed

To serve:
Handful macadamia nuts
Milk of choice (we particularly love almond milkin this recipe)
Stewed or freshly grated apple 

To make:

  • Heat the oats, water, salt and banana in a medium saucepan over a medium heat
  • Stir gently until you get a creamy consistency, 5-8 minutes
  • Spoon porridge into individual serving bowls
  • Top with apple, nuts and a splash or milk
  • YUM! You're all set for a beautiful day!
