How to Make Winter Spiced Stewed Apples. It's Easy!

    by Emily Heath

Local How to Make Winter Spiced Stewed Apples. It's Easy!

    Finally, a desert recipe that isn’t packed full of un-necessary, un-wanted and un-natural ingredients…

Stewed apples are so easy to make and is one of those flexible recipes that can cater to whatever ingredients you have in your pantry. Yay! They're the best kind!

There are so many delicious ways to use your stewed apples.

    • Mix into your favourite smoothie
    • Homemade baby food
    • Add to yogurt or Ice cream (yes please!)
    • Spread over toast.
    • Pour over your porridge or cereal

Local orchard Hillside Harvest has leant us their Royal Gala Apples for our recipe but you can use any apple variety depending on how sweet you’d like your stew. Since you’re not adding any refined sugar, you might like to stick to the sweeter kinds, as opposed to Pink Lady apples

    Ingredients:

6 apples chopped, sliced or diced.

1 large dollop of Amber Drop honey

    1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

    3 teaspoons of vanilla essence

    1 cup of boiling water

    Method:

Peel, core and chop apples and set aside. Heat a large, thick bottom pot with a fitted lid over high heat. Add apples to pot and dust with cinnamon. Pour over hot water, add honey and vanilla, stir to combine. Pop the lid on and leave to simmer for about 20 or so minutes on medium heat, or until apples are fully cooked (but still retain their shape).

For something a little different, why not try adding your favourite nut meal, dried fruit or spices… so many options!
