Kids In The Kitchen - Yummy Yoghurt Pizza Dough Scrolls

Local Kids In The Kitchen - Yummy Yoghurt Pizza Dough Scrolls

Day 1 of the school holidays and they're already bored.. Oh, and there's nothing to eat, nothing to do and they're soooo hungry. Scratch that, it's starting to look more like hangry...

If that's a familiar scene at your place, let's get those kids cooking! Cooking is quite the triple threat - it's creative, educational (just don't tell them!) and, perhaps best of all, you end up with something yummy to eat!

These school holidays we'd love you to try out this simple recipe based on just two ingredients - plain yoghurt and flour. Yep, these two ingredients come together to make a light, fluffy dough which you can use as a pizza base, or in this case, scrolls. The resulting dough is quite sticky, so be sure to flour the hands, use a light touch and do the rolling on a big piece of non-stick baking paper . To keep the hoards happy we've gone a sweet and savoury option for the scrolls.

Are you ready to create a scroll-stopping snack?

Yummy Yoghurt Pizza Base Scrolls

For 8-12 scrolls, you need:

Kids recipe yoghurt pizza scrolls at Your Food Collective

1 cup organic flour

1 tspn baking powder

1 cup yoghurt

Fillings: your choice of jam, chocolate hazelnut spread, tasty cheese

To make:

  • Preheat your oven to 190c and line a baking tray
  • In a bowl add the yogurt and stir gently
  • Add in 1 cup of flour and mix together until a dough forms and smooth into a ball - it will be a little sticky at this point
  • Leave the dough in the bowl and continue to add the extra flour slowly as required kneading until the dough is workable, smooth to touch and is no longer sticky. This process will take around 5 minutes
  • Turn out the dough onto a piece of baking paper or a non-stick surface
  • Place the dough on the paper and quickly shape into a rectangle with your hands
  • Working quickly, with a lightly floured rolling pin, roll out until the dough is about 1.5 cm thick
  • Spread the dough evenly with your choice of topping - grated cheese or a thin layer of spread
  • Quickly and gently roll the dough up evenly from the shortest side to form a log then slice each log into 8 even scrolls
  • Bake for around 12-15 minutes or until dough has cooked and is lightly golden
